We’re delighted to announce the appointment of our new IBAT Managing Director, Nitika Agarwal.
Joining at an exciting time of growth at IBAT, Nitika will lead its strategy and oversee all areas of its work, navigating an increasingly complex landscape of corporate action on nature.
Reflecting on the state of nature, and this new appointment, Nitika said: “We are at a defining moment for biodiversity. The world urgently needs trusted, actionable data to inform decisions that shape our planet’s future. IBAT stands at the heart of that mission - connecting science, policy, and business to drive real-world impact. I’m thrilled to join such a talented team and to build on IBAT’s legacy as a global force for nature-positive change.”
Nitika brings a rare combination of strategic leadership and cross-sector experience working at the intersection of sustainability, technology, and policy.
She joins IBAT from WWF-UK, where she served as Head of Sustainable Finance, leading efforts to embed biodiversity and climate considerations into financial systems and regulatory frameworks. At WWF, Nitika co-chaired the Transition Plan Taskforce’s Nature Working Group, developing a “gold standard” framework for integrating nature into corporate transition plans and her team changed primary legislation integrating nature into the mandate of financial regulators for the first time. She speaks regularly on sustainable finance issues.
Prior to WWF, Nitika held senior leadership roles in the private sector and developed deep experience in government. As Chief Operating Officer of the award-winning gov-tech start up Apolitical, she helped grow the organization from a concept into a global platform serving over 200,000 public servants across more than 150 countries. Earlier in her career, she served in the UK Treasury and Foreign Office, advising on international finance and EU budgetary and financial negotiations. She graduated from the University of Oxford in Politics, Philosophy and Economics.
